What is Love?

That is a broad question. What is Love? What defines it?

If you were searching for an "approved" answer, peruse your dictionary and you'll find your answer. But if you are looking for a more emotional, realistic answer, then search your memories and search yourself. Every being, cruel or gentle, has felt Love in their life. Some chose not to act on it. Some put it as the base of their life. The choice of how you use Love is entirely up to you.

What sets us apart from other creatures on this planet is not the ability to Love. Every being has been bestowed with that ability. Birds, mammals, sea creatures, insects, all have that ability. No, it is not Love that sets us apart. It is Love that brings us together.

Love has a mind of its own. Not matter what, you cannot control it. You can only hope to contain it. That is true for many things, but Love more specifically. You can use Love in many ways. To show kindness to the less fortunate, perhaps. Or to show a friend or family member that you Love them. But the measure of how far you take your Love for someone or something is truly the act of showing how deeply that Love affects you. A boy and a professional musician may both have the Love of music, perhaps. But neither can claim that they truly understand that Love more than the other. There are no experts at Love. There are no novices. Love is what it is. It can tear people apart with one simple touch.

But Love, if anything, can bring a group, a community, the world, together.

  1. "love"
    is a vague word
    it really, really depends
    on what kind it is
i know in this case, you're talking about family and friends love.
so i'll just shut my mouth.

  2. Haha...not bad...everybody has a different idea of what Love is. I think it's overused. Now days, people go around and say "I luv you" as a greeting...like hi, or bye.

We should only use the word when we truly, undeniably mean it, or else it will have no meaning at all.

But like the old saying goes...it's a double edged sword. Just like how hope, once crushed, can bring you deeper into despair.
